The Mousetrap

This year is the 70th anniversary of the London opening of Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap. It is the longest running play in the world. “Agatha perhaps as baffled as anybody else by the show’s enduring appeal offered the following analysis. ‘It is the sort of play you can take anyone to. It’s not really frightening. It’s not really horrible. It’s not really a farce, but it has a little bit of all these things and perhaps that satisfies a lot of different people.’” (70th year program for The Mousetrap).

Our production focuses on the secrets of the characters. The secrets are killing each of them. Some of the secrets are prompting a murderer to exact their personal justice. Other secrets have buried so deep in them that it is killing their soul. Our organization the theatre guild values community, collaboration, and creative excellence. As a community, we examine how secrets isolate characters from each other and from themselves. As we come out of a time where we have isolated from each other, we must examine what continues to isolate and divide us. What secrets are hurting us and our community? What can be brought to light to free ourselves and our community?
