The Diary of Anne Frank

When people ask me why I do theatre, I answer theatre is stories. Those stories ask questions of ourselves, each other, and the world we live in. I believe and have seen these stories change me and other people. In our classes and productions, we are asking ourselves and our audiences, “Who is my neighbor?” Specifically, in this production we are asking, “Do we love safety more than our neighbor?” As you watch this production, you will see people who loved their neighbor, people who didn’t love their neighbor, and people who worked on loving their neighbor. I believe that Anne offers us hope through the words of her diary. She is a girl who becomes a woman in a polarized and hateful world. In her diary and through this production, Anne journeys inside herself to come to a place of hopeful realism. She recognized the evil in her time and chooses to live in hope for the future. As we are living in a polarized time, may we also choose love and hope for each other.
